Some of the more common causes include:<div><br></div><div>* Carotenemia: This is a condition that occurs when you have too much carotene in your blood. Carotene is a pigment found in many fruits and vegetables, such as carrots, sweet potatoes, and spinach. When you eat too much carotene, it can build up in your skin and give it a yellow tint.</div><div>* Liver disease: Liver disease can cause a yellowing of the skin, including the palms of the hands. This is because the liver is responsible for breaking down carotene and other pigments. If the liver is not functioning properly, these pigments can build up in the skin and cause it to turn yellow.</div><div>* Thyroid problems: Thyroid problems can also cause a yellowing of the skin. This is because the thyroid gland helps regulate metabolism, and when it is not functioning properly, it can lead to a build-up of carotene in the skin.</div><div>* Medications: Some medications can cause a yellowing of the skin, including the palms of the hands. These medications include chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine, and minocycline.</div><div>* Rare conditions: There are a few rare conditions that can also cause yellow palms, such as Wilson's disease, hemochromatosis, and Gilbert's syndrome.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Here are some additional things to keep in mind:</div><div><br></div><div>* The yellowness of the palms is usually bilateral, meaning it affects both palms.</div><div>* The yellowing is usually not accompanied by any other symptoms, such as itching, pain, or swelling.</div><div>* The yellowing may be more noticeable in the winter when the skin is less exposed to sunlight.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>cochinblogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13349065906287117875noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24970864.post-50577941498788137512023-02-18T20:38:00.001+05:302023-02-18T20:38:42.024+05:30My latest ultrasound blog on fatty liver I've written a detailed blog about fatty liver and sonography of this condition.<div>Visit: <a href="http://ultrasound-images.blogspot.com/2023/02/why-do-doppler-ultrasound-study-of.html">All about fatty liver </a></div>cochinblogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13349065906287117875noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24970864.post-15904571496036991932022-12-19T11:44:00.001+05:302022-12-19T11:44:01.995+05:30Thyroid disease ebook <a href="https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BQGY462W">Thyroid disease ebook for layman </a>cochinblogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13349065906287117875noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24970864.post-73812053240846302752022-12-06T08:38:00.001+05:302022-12-06T08:38:31.496+05:30Endometrial cavity fluid, pyometra Sonography of the uterus in a middle aged female shows:<div>=Large fluid-filled endometrial cavity with particulate matter </div><div>= usually caused by obstruction to outflow of fluid from the endometrial cavity </div><div>= TVS scan advised to rule out carcinoma cervix </div><div>= CT scan confirmation needed </div><div>= ultrasound images below suggest pyometra or purulent fluid collection in endometrial cavity </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Ectopic pregnancy is a common finding with the use of ultrasound imaging. However it is still rare to find a live ectopic gestation. In this case the left fallopian tube shows an embryo with cardiac activity recorded on spectral Doppler. <br>
The above link shows images and description of the case which was later confirmed on surgery.</p>

This year's (2014) Nobel prize for medicine was awarded for the discovery of the function of a relatively poorly known part of the human (and animal) brain called the hippocampus. Studies by the Nobel award winning scientists show that the hippocampus is responsible for the function of locating and guiding humans through various geographical locations.<br />
Just when we docs and medics thought we knew it all, we discover that we knew ever so little, after all.<br />
But that applies to all of science. :-)<br />

This 40 year old male patient has a surprise in his abdomen. The right kidney is located in the right side of the pelvis, which is a variation from the normal. The normal position of the kidneys is the lumbar region. The right kidney should be seen in right renal fossa close to the liver. This variant is called pelvic kidney with this organ located just to the right of the urinary bladder.<br />

very often while performing venous Doppler study, imaging conditions are poor due to oedema of the lower limbs with the result that it is nearly impossible to visualise adequately the veins using a high frequency linear ultrasound probe. In these conditions, the use of our convex probe of lower frequency like the one we used for the lower limb venous Doppler study, is the only practical alternative. And indeed, the results are quiet good, even impressive with a 3.5 MHz probe. Of course, when needed, one must change the PRF settings as the situation demands.<br />
This was a normal venous Doppler study of the right lower limb and performed entirely using the convex ultrasound probe.<br />

this elderly male patient had redness and mild swelling of the skin over the middle third of the left leg.<br />
This is what we found when we did the colour Doppler study of the left lower limb.<br />
This patient did not have any major pain or tenderness in the thigh.Clinically, he did not have features of deep vein thrombosis. Would you think of this possibility from these Doppler ultrasound images?<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The answer: this is a case of Left femoral vein thrombosis. There is near total absence of flow signal in a major part of the left femoral vein. The lack of symptoms is explained by the patient having had anticoagulant treatment for a few days.</div>
